From the Publisher
These stories have been adapted from the
KEYURABAHU CHARITRAMU of the distinguished Telugu
poet Manchana. The poem narrates the story of King
Keyurabahu in four cantos. It was written in the
latter half of the thirteenth century.
Manchana borrowed
the theme from "Viddhasala Bhanjika," a
ninth century play of Rajashekhara. Besides
deviating from the original in several places,
Manchana has narrated twenty-two interesting
stories not found in the original. Perhaps some of
them were popular in his day in the Telugu
country.
In our
adaptation, slight changes have been made in the
narration for the sake of dramatic effect and
continuity.
